Caughell's HARDI diaphragm pump delivers

1 June 2012
Brian & Jeff Caughell

Brian and Jeff Caughell operate Caughell Farms, a 1500 acre cash crop and hog farm less than three miles from the north shore of Lake Erie south of London Ontario Canada.  Located in the heart of Elgin County they annually plant 800 acres of corn, 500 acres of soybeans, and 200 acres of winter wheat,

Brian and Jeff purchased their first HARDI sprayer in 2010 after operating several different brands over the years.  They selected a NAVIGATOR 4000 with a 90 foot EAGLE boom.  Rate control is accomplished using the reliable HARDI HC5500 controller with guidance provided by an EZ Guide 500 GPS light bar.

Their decision to purchase a HARDI was due to the strong reputation the HARDI diaphragm pump has developed in Canada over nearly 30 years.  They also know the support they experience from their local HARDI dealer, Vandenbrink Farm Equipment Ltd. at Sparta Ontario, is invaluable in the heat of the busy spraying season.  An excellent supply of parts and factory trained dealer technicians ensure prompt response should the need arise.

Brian takes responsibility for the sprayer and with all applications he covers nearly 2200 acres a year with the NAVIGATOR.  All fields are within 8 miles of home base and an infield operating speed averaging 6 mph.

All nitrogen for corn is applied pre-emerge at 50 gallons per acre, a rate the HARDI 463 pump delivers easily.  Other features that Brian likes about the NAVIGATOR is the bottle rinse incorporated into the TurboFiller and the fact the sprayer is so easy to pull with its 46” wheels, even in adverse conditions.
